Bled Castle and Vintgar Gorge are still not accessible for wheelchairs

Some sights in Bled are still not accessible for wheelchairs, including Bled Castle and Vintgar Gorge. If you are able to stand up from the wheelchair and make a few steps, then you can ride the pletna boat to Bled Island. But, it is almost impossible to take a person in a wheelchair up the steep hill on the island.

Road along Bled Lake is suitable for wheelchairs

The asphalt road along Bled Lake is suitable for wheelchairs. You can visit the centre of Bled, walk under Bled Castle to Velika Zaka. There you come to an unpaved road, which is not appropriate for wheelchairs. Admire the beautiful Bled Lake and the views of the castle and island.

You can access Triglavska roža Bled Info Centre on a wheelchair, where you can visit the interesting photo exhibition about Gorenjska and Triglav National Park.

The study beehive which is also accessible for wheelchairs shows you the life of bees.

Public toilets, accessible for people on wheelchairs, are located at Festival Hall, under the spectator stands at Velika Zaka, at Bled Sport Hall and Triglavska roža Bled Info Centre during working hours.

We would like to inform you that the panoramic helicopter ride is subject to weather conditions. In the event that the ride is canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions, a refund will be provided.

Please keep in mind that gratuity for the driver is not included in the price, so it is appreciated to provide a tip separately.

Additionally, each stop along the way is considered as a one-hour limo service and will incur an additional charge.

The singular Slovenian island

These skilled artisans, who have passed down their craft through generations, ferry visitors to the island on traditional wooden boats called Pletnas. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Upon reaching the island, you'll discover the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Legends suggest that this sacred site once housed a temple dedicated to the Slavic goddess. However, it was later destroyed during conflicts with local Pagans and replaced by a Christian church. Over the centuries, the church underwent several renovations, culminating in its current Baroque architectural splendor. Step inside to marvel at the opulent gold-covered altar and the towering 54-meter bell tower. Among the church's notable features is the "wishing bell" known as Zvono želja, affixed to a wooden beam. Its presence stems from a romantic yet tragic tale.

Poliksena, a grief-stricken widow, devoted her wealth to crafting a gold bell in honor of her late husband. However, a violent storm claimed the boat carrying the bell and the boatmen, plunging it into the depths of the lake. Overwhelmed by sorrow, Poliksena took a religious oath and became a nun in Rome until the end of her days. Upon hearing her story, the Pope sent a replacement bell to the island, which echoes its melodious chime to this day. Locals claim that on peaceful nights, one can still hear the mournful ring of the original bell emanating from the dark depths of Lake Bled.

The 99 steps

After a captivating boat journey, a short stairway leads to the church, where ascending the 99 steps and ringing the bell is believed to pay homage to the Virgin Mary and grant the fulfillment of one's greatest wish.
